Horseshoe lifebuoy

A horseshoe-shaped lifebuoy should be mounted where it can quickly be thrown to a ‘man’ overboard (MOB). The lifebuoy needs to be ready for action immediately so make sure it’s not tied on! Many horseshoe buoys will have a drogue fitted which will fill with water and help prevent drifting, and floating lights that will start flashing when in the water (check the light’s batteries before all trips).
