Hand Bearing Compass
A hand-bearing compass is a portable compass held in the hand that is used to take bearings of objects or landmarks to determine their location relative to the user’s position. This type of compass typically has a sighting mechanism to help accurately align the compass with the target. It may also have a built-in clinometer to measure the angle of elevation or depression of the target. Hand-bearing compasses are commonly used for navigation at sea.
